Almaty, October 17, 2025 — The European Business Association of Kazakhstan (EUROBAK) held its annual EUROBAK Award 2025 ceremony.
At the EUROBAK Award 2025 ceremony, the European Business Association of Kazakhstan recognized the most impactful corporate projects with a positive influence on the country’s social and environmental landscape. In the environmental initiatives category, first place was awarded to the joint project of Coca-Cola Kazakhstan and GPI Lab — Smart Plastic Zone — aimed at reducing plastic pollution and building a culture of conscious consumption in the corporate sector.
Smart Plastic Zone is a pioneering initiative for Kazakhstan that enables companies to systematically reduce their use of single-use plastics, establish waste separation systems, and transition to alternative materials. In addition to an assessment methodology and practical recommendations, project participants receive prestige certificates at the Silver, Gold, and Platinum levels, confirming their real contribution to sustainable development.
“For us, the EUROBAK award is a sign that sustainable projects are becoming part of the business agenda in Kazakhstan. Together with our partners, we want to show that environmental responsibility can be systemic, measurable, and accessible to any business,” noted Coca-Cola Kazakhstan.
Since its launch in March 2025, 53 organizations across the country have joined the Smart Plastic Zone platform — including hotels, office companies, universities, banks, and manufacturing enterprises. The project is currently active in five regions of the country and is preparing to expand into the markets of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
“We have created a platform that helps businesses not only reduce plastic use, but also become part of a community that is changing the culture of consumption. The EUROBAK award is recognition that this path matters and is in demand,” emphasized Yulia Yakupbaeva, GPI Partner.
The independent jury highly valued the innovative component of the project: Smart Plastic Zone creates real geographic zones of plastic reduction, allowing progress to be tracked by city and industry. Each participant receives personalized analytical reports, practical recommendations, training materials, and the opportunity to publicly showcase their environmental achievements through media platforms and professional communities.
The victory of Smart Plastic Zone at EUROBAK Award 2025 clearly demonstrates that Kazakhstani business is taking an active role in environmental transformation. The GPI Lab and Coca-Cola Kazakhstan project is a compelling example of how partnership, openness, and applied solutions can drive tangible change — on factory floors, in offices, and in educational institutions. The approach fully aligns with the strategic ESG and sustainable development principles that GPI implements for corporate clients in Kazakhstan and beyond.
